I found the following way to get scite to hang, with the only remedy to
kill it
(and hence losing all unsaved data). This is reproducible on Scite 1.58.

Preconditions:
- Running under Linux with KDE.
- Having Mozilla installed with several profiles and no default profile
(so that,
when Mozilla starts up, it asks you to choose a profile).

Now from within Scite, hit F1 *twice* (with a break of at least 3
seconds in between).
You will see two dialogues from Mozilla (actually one in top of the
other) asking you
to select a user profile. In both cases click on Exit.

After this, you would expect to be back in the initial state, i.e. that
you can,
for instance, continue editing. But instead, Scite calls Mozilla again,
i.e. you
get another Dialogue box from Mozilla, and Scite does not accept input
anymore.
You can close this new mozilla dialogue, but Scite still does not
respond.

If you close Scite using the "X" on the Scite Window, Scite opens a
dialogue window
(presumably to ask whether the changes should be saved), but there is no
text nor
any button in this dialogue window, so you can't do anything here
either.

Maybe you think this is a pretty exotic bug, but at least it happened to
me...
