[scite] perl extension?

>From the documentation on the scite extension interface I understand that it is possible to incorporate any scripting language into scite, not just Lua. I'm very interested in an extension interface for the PERL language. Does such a thing exist already? If not, has any work been done in that direction? I'm willing to take this project on myself if nobody else is interested.
