Well, if not reproducing it, you should at least describe the problem more precisely... I had a similar problem, until I found that autocompletion list prevented the completion of tags. Ie. when the list is displayed (I don't always notice it...), on closing the angle bracket it doesn't add the closing tag. Esc before >. There is no list of standalone tags (won't work for generic XML), but if you write them the XML/XHTML way (<br/> or <br />, etc.), you won't get the closing tag. And Ctrl+Z gets rid of them anyway.
