I am using 1.71 (not current, but pretty close) and most important,
I'm not
using 64 bit code. Although I am compiling 32-bit code with Athlon 64
extensions. I'll go ahead and try it (A) without optimizations and
(B) I'll
try manually building without the ports tree. If B fixes the issue,
then
I'll drop a line to the freebsd port maintainer.

Thanks for the help,
Grant

This is reminiscent of some 64-bit issues but they should have
been fixed
a long time ago. Ensure you have a reasonably recent version of the
source
code: current is 1.72.
