Some of the safety stuff is inline and you could try playing with
the /RTC* options. A quick google did not reveal much interesting
discussion of VS2005 executable bloat although there is some activity
on the tiny CRT library. Distributing with tlibc would worry me from a
safety point of view, particularly for the DLLs.

Thanks, Neil - I had recalled Master Pietrek's article from the old
days, and to see the subject addressed and brought up to date is
exactly what I was looking for (well, given that the "ideal" solution
in the vs 2005 compiler/runtime is not available)! :)
I will make further comments after trying this out.
