It has actually been discussed before. A series of posts from late December 2005 can be found by Googling for "scite pronunciation" (without the quotes).
The verdict of that thread seemed to be that there is not a single, definitive, correct pronunciation; and that the creator of the software doesn't seem terribly concerned how people pronounce it. There may or may not have been other discussions.
