David, ISO's 7816 WG has for some time been working on updates to the standard, but until very recently nobody in the group would talk about it, even though other standards (particularly 14443 for proximity contactless cards) depends on 7816. All we in the UK were able to find out (given that our main man representing us at ISO had changed jobs and his potential successor refused to talk) was that the WG had eventually decided on a major rewrite from part 4 on. Then, out of the blue, at a meeting last week of the UK Mirror Group for CEN work on smart cards for public transport ticketing, we were told that a set of CDs was out for ballot, and on a very short timescale. If you would like to have a set, please ask. On another matter, I note in the news email below that you refer to the DoD Common Access Card. I followed the discussion about this some while ago, and the conclusion seemed to be that the URL given was not to the DoD spec. Can you now pass on information about a source for the DoD card spec?
