Its that time again SCLUGsters!! The Sioux City Linux User Group meeting this month will be March 9th (this Saturday) at 2:00 PM. The meeting this month will be at the Sergeant Bluff Community Center. We will have high speed Internet access available this time. For those who haven't been there before, the center is easy to find and get to (check http://sclinux.org for a map). For those who can, please go to the website, print some flyers and post them. Once again a special thanks to Sergeant Bluff for allowing us to use their great facility.
On to the good stuff! Bill Stone will open the meeting. After spending a minute or two on group business, Ryan Stille will lead off with the first presentation. Ryan will be talking about using the Linux shell and various command line programs. If you are new to Linux, this will get you up to speed in being able to get around on your system. There will be plenty of goodies for advanced users also. After Ryan helps you to get comfortable with your machine, Mike Schieuer will show you a few things you'll want to do before putting that machine online using a high-speed residential or commercial Internet connection. This may help you avoid becoming the victim of a 13 year old script kiddie. After Mike has finished scaring us about security and nerdy kids with too little supervision (wait... that might be some of us), I will lead a short presentation of Linux and Open Source news for the month. The presentation will be followed or even interjected with open discussions were everyone in encouraged to speak up and join in. Bill Stone will close the meeting. For those interested, the post meeting will be at GodFather's Pizza in Sergeant Bluff. The SCLUG website has not been updated as regularly as it should be, but I'll make a special effort to get this meeting's notes online right away after the meeting. Send any feedback, corrections, additions or changes to the web pages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also, check out St. Patty Tux on the front page! After much debate we have registered the domain name "sclinux.org". You can now get the group web site using any of the following (whichever you can remember or prefer): sclug.deadpacket.com, slug.deadpacket.com, www.sclinux.org or sclinux.org. If you can't remember one of those names, you can go to http://www.linux.org/groups/index.html and find our listing under Iowa. If you still can't find the page, you should probably consider starting a Microsoft User Group (a MUG!). Do penguins really need to fly when their speed is measured in BogoMips?
