The worm doesn't bother me--it doesn't affect my Linux machines
after all.

But a mailing list that forwards more virus/spam than legitimate
mail really can be discouraging.

It's very rare these days for Linux mailing lists to forward
mail from non-subscribers without some kind of manual approval.

When aafugit ran qmail and ezmlm-idx, someone with experience
configuring the software put just that sort of approval process
in place for non-subscriber messages. aafugit then moved to Gnu
Mailman, which also has that kind of feature.

Though the two approaches work differently, and though both
require more work on the part of the admin, both solutions help
preserve the utility of the mailing list by keeping the
ham-to-spam ratio acceptable.

olug, cedarlug, qclug and cialug all also use Mailman as well.
crlug I think uses a qmail/ezmlm-type list management system
somehow while avoiding sending lots of spam and viruses. Not
sure what iclug uses.
