Here are a few simple rules right off the bat...

1. WEAR you seatbelts. And obey all the rules of the road. Don't give the
local PD any reason to pull you over. I've had a few run in's with them and
they are a bit skeptical of the legality of what I've done after the long
explainations I've given.

2. If you find an access point, that's great... Let's NOT go any farther
than that though. I know it is the responsiblilty of the Network admin to
lock down their network. But for this exercise, please don't go wandering
around the networks.

3. Use whatever kind of gear you want to. Lately I've been using an IBM
laptop with an Orinoco GOLD wireless card. I use this card because of the
ability to hook up an external antenna. I'm also using some Windows based
tools.

4. You'll need to get the location of the Access points, so pen and paper may
be needed. This is a high tech easter egg hunt, but sometimes you've go to
use low tech tools. Also if there is any question as to the validity of an
access point find, we'll send someone down with your team to make sure that
access point is there, so make sure you write down where you snagged that
signal. If you have a gps bring it along......

5. There are alot of access point that are easy to find. I someone gets a
unique AP (access point) I think that needs to be of larger point value. But
it will need to be verified by a judge or another team.

I'm unsure of the time frame we want to spend on this, so I think we need a
start and stop time. And if your not back at that location with your list on
time you get docked points. I'm sure we will be adding to the list of rules.
These are just general guidelines so far. I would like to get a little
something from each of you on this topic, either a rule of suggestion. I
won't be at the meeting tomorrow, but will be checking the list on Sunday
sometime.

As far as getting teams together... If everyone who plans to attend the drive
please also post any gear you can bring to the party. This includes your
mode of transportation.

hopefully more to come,
mike
