This is your friendly reminder to come to the SCLinux meeting this
Saturday, November 8th. Also, encourage friends, family and co-workers to
come with you and try using Linux in our little competition. In case you
haven't noticed, I'm really excited about this month's contest.
Make sure you are at the meeting (the start point) a few minutes before 1
PM. Ryan Stille is going to give a short tutorial on how to boot up
KNOPPIX STD, configure your wireless card and run and use Kismet in
Linux. No prior Linux or wireless experience is required. The WAC (Mike
Schieuer) is going to review the contest rules, last minute changes, the
point system, jackpot locations and also make sure everyone gets assigned
to a team. If you don't have a wireless card or laptop don't worry, we
will try to make sure each team has one or more laptops. Jake Sheets will
be allowing us to loan and use some of his employer's equipment for the
afternoon. We also need people to be on teams as drivers or help with
other team activities. This should be a great Linux experience for any new
comers.
Those of you who are going setup your Access Points as Jackpots need to get
them renamed and placed before Saturday afternoon. You do not have to have
your AP attached to a network, just make sure you rename the SSID so that
its begins with "sclinux-" and is followed by something unique (like your
name). Then email the street address and your complete SSID to the WAC
(mike.schieuer at longlines.com). You should probably put something like
"SCLinux Jackpot AP Location" in the subject of your email so the WAC
doesn't overlook it (yes spam sucks!).
For more info check the web page: http://sclinux.org/wardrive.php. I hope
to see you all there.
Brion.
