Depends on what kind of hard drive chain you have, what speed you burn at, what kind of buffering you have (hardware and software), what applications you're running, and so forth. If you have SuperMegaUltraSpeedy SCSI drives and a screaming CPU and you're burning at 1X from another drive while playing some Minesweeper-type-thing at nice level 19, you should be OK. If you're trying to build a kernel and glibc on a low memory, high swapping 200MHZ pentium in parallel with burning at 32X and all you have is a single 5400rpm IDE drive sharing a controller with your IDE burner, you might just plan on making some coasters. --Joe
