IPCop (http://www.ipcop.org) worked well for me.  I used v1.1 through
v1.3 on a 486 with 3 NICs as my home firewall.  It did exactly what I
needed it to do with no fuss.  Upgrades / patches were easy.  Download
path file to machine inside the firewall then use the web interface to
install the patch.  I did the initial install using one floppy disk
and an FTP server inside my home network.  Again the install was no
fuss.

I retired the 486 when I bought a netgear RP614 hardware firewall / 4
port switch.  I miss being able to read the firewall logs to see what
viruses are active locally and seeing how often the script kiddies
port scanned me.  I do not miss the constant hum of the 486 power
supply fan...
