You said that your ~/.hgrc files were identical.  But something seems to 
be defeating the "ignore" mechanism that Mercurial uses.  Do you set any 
ignore files or patterns anywhere?  If you do "hg status 
usr/src/lib/lvm," (or choose any path, the point is you should narrow it 
down and make sure there are non-scm objects there), do you see the problem?

If so, does a truss -f of the same command show that it's opening the 
.hgignore file in your repo?  Successfully?
