I've broken something. I know it /was/ working, at least sometimes...
If my users submit a commit log message of the form status 1896 : resolved fixed the new versions are stored in CVS but no status change is made on Bugzilla. Similarly, if my users issue a cvs tag with a correctly formatted tag name the CVS gets correctly tagged but no Bugzilla version is created. Tagging has never worked - I'm trying to get it working - but status definitely has. There is no error message, either presented to the user or in the scmbug error log. I have very slightly hacked CVS.pm; I've added $self->activity()->prepare_product_name(); as the very last line of prepare_activity_tag(). Before I did this my users could not tag at all, and now they can, so I don't want to roll that back. But in any case I had reports of status not working before I made this change, so I don't believe it's the cause of status not working. Also, I've still got product_name_definition set to 'manual', so you wouldn't have thought prepare_product_name would matter anyway. Any suggestions?
