Both of these scripts run fine... I'm no expert on Perl or Daemonizing in Perl but, as the init_console script completed successfully the issue must be with the way the Daemon is communicating with the console when initialised using init_console(). I'm happy to leave my hack in for our purposes but I wonder if anyone else has encountered this issue?
