Agreed, I have some updates to the existing patches.
My updates patch the pristine source, before it is installed,
thus they can be used in an rpm build.

Additionally i've found another issue which i'm going to work
on a patch for. Bugzilla doesn't allow a comment > 64k. This
clearly only happens when a developer does a mega merge, and
so isn't a big issue.

The approach i plan to take on this is to convert the list of
changed files to an attachment, and attach it to the ticket.
