The pass-through for Nodes is very important and mustn't be lost. (If your code passes the unit tests, that means we need a unit test for that case.) The extra spaces creating separate list elements, I'm not sure about. It does seem like a bit of a stretch for this function, but I can imagine cases where you need it.
