No other challenge is possible until you can show people why "Gradle clearly wins" and why "SCons internal model which is C oriented" conflicts with "the way Java is built". Well, the SCons model of "it's simple and cheap to tell what files a compiler will output, given the list of input files" doesn't really match Java's "you have to parse the input file to figure out what the output files are going to be" model.
