Also, direct downloads are a poor measure of use. Organizations will
generally do one download for all their staff. And then there is
Debian/Ubuntu/Mint,  Fedora/RHEL, HomeBrew, MacPorts: one download,
totally unknown number of actual users.

This is why publisher obsession with download statistics for FOSS is an
(almost) complete red herring.
