music. Mostly out of the Appalachian Mtns. I know there are a lot of
Scottish Sir names among the folks living in the Blue Ridge Mtns. ( which is
the most southerly range of the Appalachians.) >>
Surnames aside, the Appalachians were heavily settled by the Scots-Irish, or
Ulster Scots on the other side of the pond. If you'll recall, during the
Plantation in the 1600s, a great many Lowland Scots emigrated to Northern
Ireland as part of a plan to protestantize Ireland. The Lowland Scots took
their language with them-- Lallans-- and after a few generations in "Norlin
Airlann" it became known as Ullans. So yes, there is a great deal of
Scottish influence in the Appalachians, but indirectly by way of Ireland.
