Thanks Ted,
I hope you can find it.
At the end of the table of contents of my copy of 'The Paisley
Magazine', 1828, is the statement:
'The names on the margin & the above note, are taken from a copy
of the Magazine which belonged to the late Dr. Andrew Crawford of
[Lochwinnoch, d. 1854] and now in the possession of Mr. Arch' Coats of
Woodside; and believed to be in the hand-writing of Motherwell.'
The 'above note' referred to reads:
'I have noted on the margin as nearly as I remember the names of
the writers of the various articles which appeared in the
Magazine.'
After the index in back is:
'The Paisley Magazine was got up by a Joint Stock Company
Dick the publisher held 4 shares
Neilson the printer 3 "
Wm Motherwell 2 "
Phillip Ramsay, Writer 2 "
John Dunn do 2 "
Robt Hay, Clerk to Canal Co. 2 "
(afterward Editor Paisley Advertiser)
Dr Geo: Wylie 2 "
Wm Findlay Writer 2 "
A. Carlile Thread Manufr 1 "
Andw Paterson Writer 1 "
A guinea was advanced for each share. Motherwell was the Editor.
The proprietors paid him 2 guineas a number for 12 numbers.'
