The sleeve notes say he got it from Bob Cherry (I think - I've forgotten already and I'm not going back down into the cellar!), who learnt it from an elderly Glasgow piper. It (the song) was apparently popular with the Highland Light Orchestr... em, I mean Infantry, during WW1.
