Karine Polwart's "Marianna" (on the Malinky album). A poem by George Mackay Brown set to (more or less) the tune of "Como poden per sas culpas" from the Cantigas de Santa Maria. (I asked Karine about this once, and she said she hadn't consciously borrowed it, but it's a tune that anybody who'd heard a bit of mediaeval music would have come across). =================== <http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/> =================== Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music & Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
