When I wrote the SCD dance "Nifty Shiftin'" for this tune I searched on the web (using John Chamber's searcher http://trillian.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/findtune?P=Tam+Lin&F2=find+%28wide%29) and like you found several versions (61 at present, according to John). The one I chose to link to from the dance (http://www.scottishdance.net/dances/NiftyShiftin.html) was the one which most closely matched the version recorded by Catriona MacDonald and Ian Lowthian on their album "Opus Blue", which was the original inspiration for writing the dance. So here's the one which matches my archetypal recording of it: X: 1 T:Tam Lin T:Howling Wind M:C| L:1/8 S:Session in Sligo 1991 R:Reel N:First played in Dm a few times, then in Am a few time K:Am E2AE cEAE|F2AF cFAF|G2BG dGBG|cBAG EAAG| E2AE cEAE|F2AF cFAF|G2BG dGBG|cBAG EAA2:| |:ae~e2 ceAe|ae~e2 ceAe|gd~d2 Bd~d2|gd~d2 gabg| ae~e2 ceAe|ae~e2 ceAE|~F3E FGAB|cABG EAA2:| [Though I gather from other replies that the bibliographical information in this is somewhat incomplete... Does anyone recognise this transcription?] Cheers, Ian -- IndigoVision Ltd http://www.indigovision.com/ The Edinburgh Technopole, Bush Loan, Edinburgh, EH26 0PJ Tel: [+44] (0)131 475 7234 Fax: [+44] (0)131 475 7201 Personal: [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.scottishdance.net Feed the world: http://www.thehungersite.com/ The information in this e-mail is confidential and for use by the addressee(s) only.
