I don't know about its antecedents, I was under the impression it was wholly
Skinners.  In his Harp and Claymore collection, he claims it as his own
"Slow air or Strathspey, by J. Scott Skinner"
     [Harp & Claymore, p. 18; Scots Violinist,11 (in D)] -  With a variation
to the 2nd strain. The dedicatee is �W. McCombie Smith, F.S.A., Schoolhouse,
Persie, by Blairgowrie.�
