Indeed. I was hoping you would step in a debunk a few tunes on my list
(Bruce has conducted amazing and exhaustive research which is well
worth investigating at regular opportunities).

GF Graham in The Popular Songs and Melodies of Scotland sounds equally
dubious of the Macgill claim (for "The Black Rogue/Come Under My
Plaidie/Johnny M'Gill"). I tried prefacing my list carefully, adding
the word "associated" after "original", and my purpose was to take ONE
collection - O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland - and demonstrate how
many tunes have Scottish connections, and therefore how intermingled
the two culture might be. There's no doubt that whatever the origin,
"Come Under My Plaidie" has been known and played in Scotland for a
long time.
