On this list I'd say it was a perfect way to say hello.

Yes.

Yes, although its origins are obscure. It is a form of tune/dance known
as a Scottish Measure but, if I remember correctly, the dance, going
back to the 16th century, has been lost. Similar tunes that could be
classed as Scots Measures include "The White Cockade", "Flowers of
Edinburgh", "The Cairdin' O't", "There Was a Lad Was Born in Kyle",
"The East Neuk of Fife" and so on.

I think you might be asking for suggestions of Scottish tunes which are
easy to learn and are suitable for dancing? OK, try "My Love She's But
a Lassie Yet", "The Rose Tree", "Highland Laddie", "The Burning of the
Pier's Hut", "Tail Toddle", "Lass o' Patie's Mill". I hope others will
come up with names. Visit my website - start at

and look at the list of Scottish tunes. Look at the tunes and assess
how easy they are, print 'em out, duplicate 'em, pass 'em around.

Oh, and let us know how you get on. Oh, and good luck.
