Presumably you know that Brechin is a town in Angus, so that leaves us
with "bober". The Concise Scots Dictionary gives one definition of
"bob" as "a dance" (developing, I assume, from the simple "bob", to
move up and down) dating from the late 16th century; this seems a
reasonable explanation. Although as you'll know, Gore's index also
gives "Robbers of Brechin". My feeling would be to go with the dancers
of Brechin.

Thanks, Nigel.
