Kirrie seems to be not a bad place to be. Choreographer, step dancer and dance teacher Mats Melin lives there, as does singer Christine Kydd, and Maureen Jelks, another excellent traditional singer is just nearby. Kirrie is also the home of accordionist and band leader Iain Cruikshanks, and there is a very lively Scottish dance scene (music and dancing) in the area. Derek Hoy of this parish was telling me the other day about a nice session in Carnoustie, and I think there might still be a regular session at the Foundry Bar in Arbroath. Don't know much about Brechin, but there used to be a regular Sunday session in Friockheim not far away. There are a couple of people in Angus Council who are keen on developing traditional music, dance and storytelling in the area.
