Every week I teach a number of classes in traditional music, from a
morning penny whistle class for pensioners to three or four mandolin
classes. Another class is a mixed instrument group where we build up a
repertoire - chosen by me - and then go to the pub and have a session.
Because people keep coming back to the class year after year, I'm
always on the lookout for new tunes to add to the repertoire. Next
session, starting in September, I'm going to look mostly at "standard"
tunes in sets, interspersed with interesting tunes I've found, such as
the ones I posted.

What are standard tunes? Good question, and I guess everybody will have
different answers. I'm going to look at tunes such as these:

Mrs Macleod; Gillie Callum; Jenny Dang the Weaver; De'il Amang the
Tailors; Marquis of Huntly's Highland Fling; Haughs of Cromdale;
Highland whisky; Captain Campbell; The Fairy dance; Cameron's Got His
Wife Again; Lord MacDonald's; Duke of Perth; Tarbolton Lodge; Caber
Feigh; Braes o' Mar; Lord Lyndoch; What's a the Steer; Lass o' Patie's
Mill; Flowers of Edinburgh/White Cockade/East Neuk of Fife; Bottom of
the Punchbowl; Good Night and Joy Be Wi' Ye; Mason's Apron; Banks of
the Allan; Teviot Brig; Stool of Repentance; Merrily Kissed the
Quaker's Wife; Jacky Tar....

...and so on. Does that answer your question?
