Last Wednesday was the enrolment night for the Glasgow Fiddle Workshop, a fairly dull affair, but to finish off we had performances from Rallion and Archie MacAllister.
Rallion are a new Glasgow-based four-piece group with two fiddles, a singer/bodhranist and guitarist/mandolist, although all members double up on other instruments. They were great, and it was refreshing that all their material was Scottish. Archie MacAllister is an excellent fiddler and he took us through a tour of fiddle music from the US, Canada, Ireland, and especially Scotland. He was marvellous to listen to, and accompanied by Mark Pottinger playing Willie Johnson-style back, quite brilliantly. All in all I was uplifted by the music that night. -- Nigel Gatherer, Crieff, Scotland [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/gatherer/ Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music & Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
