Hallo!
We participated in a wonderful Robbie Burns Night celebration
in Muir Beach, California. There was a host/emcee in period
costume, a piper, two Highland dancers, a harper, and a fiddler (me).
The piper started the program, then we all took turns performing for the
diners. Because we have performed together in the past, we were able to use an
eye-tag system to know when to start and stop our particular contributions. The
dancers talked about the dances they were about to perform, then danced on
opposite sides of the room as the piper or our harp/fiddle duo played the music. The
emcee recited "Ode to a Haggis," and the haggis was duly paraded around the room and
toasted. After the dinner dishes were cleared, more of Robbie Burns' poetry was
recited, the gents and the ladies were toasted, and the piper played "Scotland the
Brave" while everyone in the room sang to the rousing rendition.
Our Robbie Burns Night was held on Saturday night, and the early date did not at
all detract from the festivity.
