Whoops, forgot about that. With luck the internet gw is west.
The ppp adds a default route to west's routing table and everything is fine.
Things are more difficult if the internet gw is on east or linden.
Let us assume the internal network is 192.168.1.0/24
and the internet gw is east, then
root@linden route add default gw west
root@west route add default gw east
root@east route add -net 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0
Then set ppp to add a default route.
