My experiences in Glasgow:

Creative Computing, Shawlands
        - knowledgeable and helpful
        - technicians on-site
        - annoying tendency to put BIOS passwords
          into whole systems
        - prices good but not the cheapest

Infiniti (southside of the river, near Scotland Street)
        - cheaper than Creative
        - in-shop service was OK but a tendency to
be distracted by other customers. The fact
that one of them smoked in the shop was
annoying. And they go a bit OTT on the
          old "we're experts, you're not so don't
come crying to us if you break your machine"
          warnings.
        - sold me duff memory which they replaced
          (that's a good point :-)
        - I bought the bits for my second system
          from them

Priceless (shop on Argyle Street, near PC world)
        - cheapest shop
        - repeatedly the worst retail service I've ever
had anywhere and I've been served by waitresses
in Paris. I mean, they were *bad*. *Unbelievably*
bad. So bad it makes me think maybe it was being
done on purpose, as a kind of cute 80's throwback.
          Easily overwhelmed their price advantage.
But that was one shop only. There are a few
others which may be more human.

PC World (Finnieston, East Kilbride)
        - lots of pretty boxes
        - expensive for hardware
        - good quick pace for consumables and browsing
        - almost completely clueless front desk staff
(I think they keep their good folk away from customers)

DABS Direct (mail order)
        - fast
        - cheap
        - helpful phone staff (although a colleague has said the
          opposite)
        - wide range of stuff.
        - I bought the bits for my first system from them

My choice:

        1. DABS
        2. Creative/Infiniti
        3. PC World
        ...
        100. Priceless

The first three are all worth using.
The last is worth a visit for a laugh, or emergencies.
