Hi

>If you are downloading mandrake it is only a beta
>if you install it your modem will not work, network cards
>If I where you I would wait a couple of weeks for the full tested version

Bull.

Mandrake 8.0 is a beta, but 7.2 isn't. I downloaded this, burnt it to a CD and
installed it no probs.
Get a 2.4 series kernel and the cable modem should be fine. Linux is fine with cable
modems -- I have a Surfboard SB3100 from Telewest that connects to a network card. If
it can use a USB bus then it should be able to talk to the network card..
(though you might need to do some jiggery-pokery with dhcpcd).

Redhat 7 is fine, I've downloaded that too. :-)
For me it takes about 3 hours to download an ISO image, 505-512Kb/sec, from an FTP
site in France. (Address is something like ftp.free.fr, carries *loads* of distro ISOs
- in English!)

I think mandrake is by far the easiest to set up. Also if you're burning CDs in
windows using nero, don't just dump an ISO onto a disc - this won't work - click File
and Burn image. In the "files of type" box select all files, then choose the ISO you
want, press OK a few times and you'll have a linux CD within a few minues. :-)
