I have just come across this thread half way through, sorry....
What appears to be the problem with Telewest ??I use their cable modem setup
with OpenBSD and it seems to be working great. I did have a few problems
using a different NIC for a while, but once I double checked the hardware
address, and rest all the dhcp stuff it workeed fine.
The annoying thing I found was that running ifconfig gave me a number that
looked like a MAC address but wasn't. I read it out to telewest that then
said it WAS a valid number. numerous problems convinced me something wasn't
wrong. I got the correct address, and gave it to Telewest, and have had no
further problems.
