Hi,
Having finished my final year at uni, I'm now looking for jobs in GLasgow. Does anyone
know of good agencies, or a good method for finding employment.
I'm a systems administrator, webmaster, and I've just spent a year doing an honours
project where I was setting up and developing an online directory on zope/postgresql.
I know the thing to do is get out there and look, but for example, when jobhunting
down in Bristol, I phoned all the agencies, until one took me on seriously and started
giving me interviews. I got nowhere and lost loads of time: they kept offering jobs
that I wasn't qualified for, or in one case, an ex-military document publications
company managed like a henry ford factory.
Then I just got the phonebook out, and started calling all the companies there, asking
directly if they had any work going. Spam, but as I saw it, my only option. One person
said: "you need to be on this mailing list" - turns out there was a "hip/new media"
mailing list that every .com person was on, and that was the best place to ask. I had
a job within the week.
So, is there some kind of similar shortcut for work in glasgow/edinburgh?
Might not be linux related, but as a "linux professional" I'm wondering wether other
people have shared the same lack of replies to applications that I've had so far, with
my linux background on my CV.
