I have a similar spec machine,

mandrake 8.0 finds the Geforce and all of my hardware straight off,
might be worth having a look if your not particulalry fussed about which
distro you use.

I spent about 2months trying to get redhat and mandrake 7.x to install on
the same machine and my small box, so I know how you feel :)
