Depends on the winmodem... Can't say I recommend trying linux drivers

Yes. But it's a pain in the backside. I think you can use Windows 98
Internet connection sharing for this - I've done an FTP install of NetBSD
using a w98 machine as a gateway.

You'll need two network cards... If they're UTP, you'll need a crossover
cable, or a hub. Obviously a hub gives you room to add more machines later
(UT on a lan, with some friends over?), but a crossover cable will be
cheaper. I've got loads of ISA thinwire (coax) ethernet cards, you can have
two if you want. Mine's a Kronenbourg. Might even have spare cables...
Depending on the flavour of linux, setting up a network isn't too difficult.
Neither is setting up Windows networking. Hate to say it, but read the
HOWTO's...
You'd probably be better off buying a decent modem though. Less trouble in
the long run.
