Ben

I have been using a DeskJet 840C for a good few months or so now and have
had no problems at all printing from Win98 or SuSe 7.0. It is a USB model
and took some setting up with SuSe, but that's 'cos i'm still learning
(slowly).

It gives a very nice print quality, especially on photos, and has a separate
black cartridge so you don't have this mixing colours business for black
characters, like most letters...

Quite quick at about 11ppm for black/white and 6-7ppm for colour (iirc).
Works very well with 100gsm paper for presentations/handouts etc, but just
as good on std printer paper. You can banner print too.

I'm sorry I can't help you on the last 2 points...

HTH

Iain

Subject: [scottish] A few questions......

OK, few things I could do with help on:

1. My wife is wanting me to buy a nice new colour printer (she's a
teacher), and it needs to be fairly cheap, but I want good quality Linux
output. Has anyone had any experience of the HP DeskJet 840C?

2. I do a bit of website development on the side of my 'normal' job, and
I've been doing it all in Linux, so as to get me used to that side of
things. I've been using a lot of JavaScript, which Opera renders fine, but
Konqueror doesn't. Anybody know why? (Also works fine in IE5 and Netscape)
Am using the version of Konqueror from Mandrake 7.2. Works fine on some
scripts, but not others.

3. Lastly, I want to test the booking form, which invokes a cgi-script to
send an e-mail to the website owner with the booking details. However, I
was wondering if there was a way I could set up perl, sendmail, and mutt so
that I could just internally e-mail myself on the system as a test, as I
don't currently have a net connection within Linux (winmodem)? I'm guessing
that I would need to install and configure Apache, which I don't have space
for at the moment, but I thought I'd ask just in case.

Thanks in advance.
