I have other boards with shared graphics memory (Intel 810 and SiS
on-board  video). They have no problems.
I have had installation problems on machines with IDE hard drives and
CDROM. These are due to having drive on primary and secondary
channels, with the CDROM as the secondary slave. The solution is to
use only the primary master hd and one CDROM during the install. Other
drives have to be physically disconnected - modprobe isn't fooled by
BIOS settings. The other stuff can be reconnected after the system
boots to 'nix. This may have nothing to do with your problem, but then
it just might.
