Have a look at the steps in the Debian installation instructions (http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/install). The Debian installer always asks what step you would like to take next, normally you should go for the default, but in this case have a look at the alternatives. When you are asked for the install media in "Install Operating System Kernel and Modules", you should give it the Rescue Disk, and then the Drivers disks. Then the default next step will be "Configure Device Driver Modules", but DO NOT select this, instead pick the alternate "Configure PCMCIA Support". Then you should be able to set up your PCMCIA socket. You may then need to go to "Configure Device Driver Modules" to install drivers for the PCMCIA interface card and CDROM drive. Then continue the default steps till you get to "Install the Base System", here you will be asked again what install media you wish to use, but now since your CDROM drive is visible to Linux you will be able to specify the installer to use it. If you get this far then the rest should be easy. >I see the mini sites, but am clueless as to what version to download as >I'll be downloading >and unzipping it on my PC and using only the floppy for the laptop. I wouldn't worry about those for the moment, try installing Debian with PCMCIA support and see if that succeeds first. Hope this helps, Steven. -- email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] web: http://www.murdomedia.net/ PGP/GnuPG keys: http://www.murdomedia.net/keys.html -------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.lug.org.uk http://www.linuxportal.co.uk http://www.linuxjob.co.uk http://www.linuxshop.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------
