I've tinkered with Debian in the past, but make no guarantees that I can
answer all your questions. However, one useful source of info is the fact
that O'Reilly have reproduced the entire 'Learning Debian GNU/Linux' book
on their webpage:  http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/debian/chapter/
