Hi apostolus, I'll prefix this by saying Windows isn't my thing, so I may be talking out of my beard ... :)

AFAIK, the printer icon in the systray is because the Windows local spooler is still running. Do CTRL-Alt-Del before (ie just after booting) and submitting a print job and have a look if there's an extra process running. There used to be an option to tell the print spooler to die after printing has finished, don't know what the default is now. Ah, I've just spotted a pattern. Chances are the printer icon is still present because the print job never successfully completed. > Also, view the printer properties lp2 on SERVER shows > up as spooling. I can end up with all jobs printed showing up as spooling. I take it SERVER is your Win2k box? Odd name -- I normally reserve that for my Linux or BSD besties ;^) Assuming the Linux box does the passive close (ie closing the connection is initiated by the Win2k machine), then comms goes like: Win2k ---- [FIN] ---> Linux Win2k <--- [ACK] ---- Linux [Linux tells samba connection is closed. Samble tells Linux to close other half of the connection] Win2k <--- [FIN] ---- Linux Win2k ---- [ACK] ---> Linux My guess is that Samba isn't terminating its half of the connection, for whatever reason .. Do "netstat|grep tcp" to see the state of the connections (to confirm this isn't some weird packet loss problem). You'll probably see lots of "CLOSE_WAIT" state connections. You can try "ps aux|grep smb" to see what samba's up to, also check /var/log/samba/* file for info on what's going wrong. HTH Paul.
