Realistically a focussed search might be useful, such as
(java or php or ada) and ([wherever you are]) [1]
and another method to use is to browse the list of recruitment agencies
itself on jobserve, so you can see the latest jobs each agency has just
posted.
If you're going to use Jobserve, just be prepared to deal with agents who
will either
a) not be able to place you because the client just doesn't respond,
b) not be able to place you because they themselves just don't respond,
c) get knocked back from the company looking for staff because
"the client didn't want to pay the agency finder fees",
d) knock you back because they say you don't have the correct skillset,
and then refuse to keep you on file for anything else (hello,
Careercare in Edinburgh!), or
e) actually help you out as best as they can (these are few and far
between IME!!)
I spent over a month in jobseeking hell just before Christmas, and it wasn't
pleasant at all. Thankfully I'm sorted now, working from home (thank god
for adsl!), but I can totally relate to what it's like just now.
I don't know of anything specific in the area, but the best thing to do is
spread out - use jobserve.com, monster.co.uk, s1jobs.com, the herald (dead
tree), recruitment scotland (dead tree) and so on. You might also want to
consider dropping on-spec copies of your CV to tech companies around your
locale to see if anything is available, just in case.
[1] i tended to use (glasgow or edinburgh or stirling) in my jobserve
searches to try and restrict the results to something i'd be able to commute
to - worked reasonably well in most circumstances
