Hmm, why the 1 2 at the end? Why I just replied 

/dev/hda1       /mnt/vfat                 vfat           defaults 

was that I thought defaulting to 0 0 would be correct, under the assumption that 

a) dump only examines ext2 filesystems

b) There is no (ie I don't have installed :-) ) a fsck.vfat command.

Could David, or some other enlightened member explain this filesystem magic to me. 
I guess things are moving to fast for an old timer like me to keep up. sigh!!
