Yep there was a lot of good stuff on Alba. But the best was Verities&Balderdash run by the late great Peter Waddel. Never had any Linux stuff AFAIR but way back then 93 - 96 I wasnt too aware of Linux. Its amazing to think of the stuff that could get done with just the one phone line back then and a 28.8k modem. But the phone bills were horrendous. V&B was succeeded by SoD after the tragic death of Peter in 1996 but it was never quite the same despite the heroic efforts of Steven Winetrobe. ISTR a poster for SoD in Creative Computing a couple of years ago and there is still a page up at http://www.sodbbs.demon.co.uk/vandb.htm but it hasnt been updated in years and most of the links are broken. FIDOnet was just amazing and Common Room was the best of the lot. Intelligent IRC with horrendous lag is prob the best way to put it. There was some truly hilarious patter in there and some very inventive wind-ups.
