aren't you trying to reinvent dynamic dns here, or have i misread ... there
are plenty of dyndns tools on sourceforge and freshmeat :)  ipupdate rings a
bell - i have a couple of CM-owning friends (on both ntl and by) who do
something like this with their colocated DNS to let other people access
their single-machine-behind-the-CM-honest :)
