for those who were there last night and wanting a status update, the Latitude is doing well, considering it had a pint of lager poured over it - admittedly accidentally! The keyboard isn't responding in the slightest, but it fires up, trackpad and buttons work, and I'm using it over rdp right now.

So not quite as bad as it first may have seemed :)

In case anyone's still worried about The Laptop That Took The Pint, the keyboard is responding nicely even without the bath I threatened it with (one of the keyboard screws stripped - bloody soft Dell screw heads).

Just as well really, as Dell got back to me today with an out-of-warranty service call quote (they wouldn't do it under warranty) to RTB the laptop, replace the keyboard, and return it to me - 250 ex VAT all in ... *shocking*! Oh, and they wouldn't sell me the keyboard as a spare part, presumably non-user-servicable from their point of view, despite the four screws marked "K" on the underside ...

Something to bear in mind at the next ScotLUG meeting, Keep Those Laptops Safe!
